Lake Carmel

Formerly surrounded by summer cottages, this manmade lake is now home to mostly year-round residents. Use of the lake is restricted to park district residents and their guests.

Cold Spring is known for its antique shops. On your way back into town for supper, take a little time to peruse the local antique stores and curio shops that line Main Street. The Cold Spring Antique Center is a great place to stop and dive headfirst into the treasures of the past in the Hudson Valley.

Tompkins Corners

The community was named after the brothers Tompkins, who first settled at the site in the 1770s. In the 1840s, Tompkins Corners consisted of merely "a few houses". A post office called Tompkins Corners was established in 1878, and remained in operation until 1954.

Hamlet of Carmel

The hamlet is the site of the historic County Court House (built 1814), the David D. Bruen County Office Building, and other structures, and borders Lake Gleneida. Next to the lake stands a bronze statue commemorating Sybil Ludington.

Fahnestock State Park

This 14,086-acre park, covering land in Putnam and Dutchess counties, boasts hiking trails, picnic areas, scenic campground, and abundant opportunities for boating, hunting, fishing, and birding.
